Verges & Landscaping
Grass verges and garden edges disturbed by the work are made good, so the site is left neat and safe.
Traffic Management
Planning and on-site traffic control that keeps workers, drivers and pedestrians safe while the work gets done.
- Traffic guidance plans
- Traffic controllers on site
- Signs, barriers and detours
Well-managed traffic is essential for road safety and flow. NSW Building and Civil plans and runs traffic management around road and civil works, so crews can work safely and the public can get through with as little disruption as possible.
From a single lane closure to staged works on busy roads, we set up the site to a clear plan, control traffic while the work is under way and reopen the road safely when the job is done.
Planning
We assess the site and prepare the traffic plan before work starts: lane closures, detours, speed zones and safe routes for pedestrians.
Set-up
Signs, cones, barriers and detours go in exactly to the plan, so drivers, cyclists and pedestrians know where to go.
Traffic Control
Traffic controllers manage vehicles and people around the site while the crew works, adjusting as conditions change.
Pack-down
When the work is finished the site is cleared, the equipment removed and the road reopened safely.
Soft Fall
Seamless poured rubber soft fall for playgrounds, schools and parks, laid to cushion falls and stand up to everyday play.
- Poured rubber, laid on site
- Thickness to suit the equipment
- Choice of colours and patterns
Soft fall is the cushioned rubber surface under and around play equipment. NSW Building and Civil lays seamless poured rubber soft fall at schools, parks and playgrounds, giving children a safer place to play and a hard-wearing surface that is easy to keep clean.
We prepare the ground, lay the rubber to the thickness the play equipment needs and finish it in the colours you choose. The work is planned around school timetables and opening hours, so the play area is closed for as short a time as possible.
Ground Preparation
We check the area, remove the old surface if there is one and lay a firm, level base that drains well.
Cushion Layer
A thick, shock-absorbing rubber layer goes down first, laid to suit the height of the play equipment above it.
Coloured Top Layer
A finer coloured rubber is trowelled smooth over the top, in one colour or with patterns, shapes and markings.
Repairs
Worn, torn or lifting soft fall is patched or resurfaced, so the play area is safe and back in use.
Landscaping
Paths, garden beds, planting and turf that turn parks, reserves and school grounds into green, usable public spaces.
- Parks, reserves and school grounds
- Paths, garden beds, planting and turf
- Built alongside our civil works
NSW Building and Civil landscapes parks, reserves, school grounds and streetscapes for councils and government agencies, turning bare or worn ground into green, usable space for the community.
We prepare the ground, build the paths and edges, then plant, mulch and lay turf, often as part of the same job as our asphalt, concrete and drainage works, so the whole site is finished together and ready to use.
Site Preparation
We clear the area, shape the levels and prepare the soil, so the site drains well and new plants and turf can take hold.
Paths & Edging
Asphalt and concrete paths through parks and reserves, with neat edges where the paths meet garden beds and grass.
Garden Beds & Planting
Trees, shrubs and groundcovers planted to suit the site, with mulched beds and tree surrounds that hold moisture and keep weeds down.
Turf & Finishing
New turf laid or lawn reseeded, and the site cleaned up and made safe, so the space is ready for the community to use.
Spray Sealing
Bitumen spray sealing for council and regional roads: a waterproof, hard-wearing surface with good grip, laid quickly with little disruption.
- Hot bitumen and stone chips
- New seals and reseals
- For council and regional roads
Spray sealing, also called a bitumen or chip seal, is hot bitumen sprayed over the road and covered straight away with stone chips that are rolled in. NSW Building and Civil lays spray seals for councils and government agencies, giving roads a tough, waterproof surface with good grip.
We repair and sweep the road first, then spray the bitumen, spread the stone and roll it in, and sweep up any loose stone at the end. Traffic control is in place for the whole job, so the road stays open where possible and reopens quickly.
Surface Preparation
Potholes and soft spots are repaired, then the road is swept clean and dry so the seal bonds properly.
Bitumen Spraying
A sprayer truck lays an even coat of hot bitumen across the road, at the rate that road needs.
Stone & Rolling
Stone chips are spread straight over the hot bitumen and rolled in to lock them in place. Loose stone is swept up afterwards.
Reseals
Worn, cracked or dry sealed roads get a fresh seal that keeps water out and adds years to the road underneath.
Line Marking
Clear, bright line marking for roads, pedestrian crossings, car parks and school grounds, so everyone knows where to go.
- Roads, crossings, car parks and schools
- Lines, bays, arrows and symbols
- Night work to keep roads open
Clear line marking keeps drivers, cyclists and pedestrians safe. NSW Building and Civil marks roads, pedestrian crossings, car parks and school grounds for councils and government agencies, with sharp, bright lines that are easy to see and easy to follow.
We set out every line to the approved plan, mark new surfaces once they are sealed and re-mark faded lines on existing roads. Much of the work is done at night or outside busy hours, with traffic control in place, so roads stay open and the public can get through safely.
Pedestrian Crossings
Zebra crossings, school crossings and raised crossings, marked with bold, even stripes that drivers can see from a distance.
Lane Lines & Symbols
Centre, edge and lane lines, turn arrows, bike lanes, speed numbers and words such as LOOK and KEEP CLEAR, set out to the plan.
Car Parks & School Grounds
Parking bays, accessible bays, arrows and walkways in public car parks, plus court lines and play markings at schools.
Re-marking
Faded and worn markings are repainted over the existing lines, so roads, crossings and car parks stay clear and safe.
Liquid Crack Sealing
Hot liquid sealant run into road cracks to keep water out and stop small cracks turning into potholes.
- Cracks cleaned, then sealed hot
- Night and off-peak shifts
- Stops cracks turning into potholes
Cracks let water into a road. Once it gets in, it softens the layers underneath, and small cracks soon turn into potholes and broken pavement. NSW Building and Civil seals road cracks for councils and government agencies, filling them with hot liquid sealant that keeps the water out and helps the road last longer.
Sealing cracks early is one of the cheapest ways to look after a road and put off the cost of resurfacing. We often work at night or outside peak hours, with our own traffic management, so streets stay open and are back in normal use soon after the sealant sets.
Inspection
We look over the road, mark the cracks that need sealing and plan the work and traffic control around the street.
Cleaning
Each crack is blown out with compressed air to clear dirt, loose stones and moisture, so the sealant sticks to clean, dry asphalt.
Hot Sealing
Sealant heated in the tanker is run into each crack through a hand wand, filling it and covering the edges with a thin band.
Finishing
The sealant is left to set or dusted with fine grit, then the cones come off and the road reopens to traffic.
Stairs & Handrails
Concrete stairs and handrails for streets, parks, schools and public buildings, built for safe, easy access on slopes and level changes.
- Concrete steps poured on site
- Handrails for a safe hold
- Streets, parks and schools
NSW Building and Civil builds concrete stairs and handrails for councils, schools and government agencies: on sloping streets and footpaths, in parks and reserves and at public buildings, so people can get up and down level changes safely.
We set out the levels, build the formwork and pour each flight of steps on site, then fit the handrails. The work is fenced off and planned around shops, schools and traffic, so the area is back in use as quickly as possible.
Set-out & Formwork
We set out the levels and build the formwork, so every step in a flight has the same height and depth from top to bottom.
Concrete Steps
Each flight is poured and finished on site, with crisp edges and a textured surface that gives good grip in wet weather.
Handrails
Sturdy handrails are fitted beside the stairs, giving people something firm to hold on the way up and down.
Repairs & Upgrades
Cracked, worn or uneven steps are repaired or rebuilt, and handrails are added to older stairs that have none.
Retaining Wall
Concrete block and reinforced concrete retaining walls that hold back the ground beside roads, footpaths, ramps and public spaces.
- Block and concrete retaining walls
- Beside roads, paths and ramps
- Drainage built in behind the wall
NSW Building and Civil builds retaining walls for councils and government agencies, holding back the ground where roads, footpaths, ramps and public spaces meet a slope, so the land stays in place and the space beside it is safe to use.
We dig and pour the footings, build the wall in concrete blocks with steel reinforcement or in poured concrete, and put drainage in behind it so water cannot build up. The wall is then backfilled and finished, often in the same job as the path, ramp or road it holds up.
Footings
The wall is set out to the design and dug out for reinforced concrete footings that carry its weight.
Block & Concrete Walls
Concrete block walls with steel bars and concrete-filled cores, or poured concrete walls, built to the height and shape in the design.
Drainage & Backfill
Drainage pipe and gravel behind the wall let water drain away, then the ground is backfilled and compacted in layers.
Paths & Ramps
Walls built together with the footpaths and access ramps they hold up, so the whole area is finished in one job.
Speed Humps
Speed humps and raised crossings that slow traffic on council streets, near schools and in car parks, so people can walk and cross safely.
- Speed humps and raised crossings
- Council streets, schools and car parks
- Line marking and signs to finish
NSW Building and Civil builds speed humps, raised pedestrian crossings and raised thresholds for councils and government agencies, slowing traffic where people walk and cross: near schools, in town centres, on local streets and in car parks.
We set out each hump to the design, prepare the road, then build it in asphalt, concrete or pavers with smooth, even ramps on both sides. Line marking, signs and traffic control are part of the job, so drivers can see the hump clearly and the street reopens quickly.
Speed Humps
Asphalt speed humps built to the height and length in the design, with smooth, even ramps on both sides.
Raised Crossings
Pedestrian crossings and thresholds raised to footpath level in asphalt, concrete or coloured pavers, so people crossing are easier to see.
Line Marking & Signs
White ramp triangles, zebra stripes and warning signs, so drivers see the hump in time.
Repairs & Upgrades
Worn or damaged humps rebuilt and re-marked, and the road around them resurfaced to match.
Pedestrian Crossing
Zebra and raised pedestrian crossings for council streets, school zones and town centres, built so people on foot can cross safely and drivers see them in time.
- Zebra and raised crossings
- Kerb ramps and tactile markers
- Schools, shops and town centres
NSW Building and Civil builds pedestrian crossings for councils, schools and government agencies: zebra crossings, raised “wombat” crossings and kerb islands on local streets, in school zones and in busy town centres, so people on foot can cross safely and drivers see them in time.
We prepare the road and build the crossing in asphalt or concrete, form the kerb ramps on each side with yellow tactile markers, then paint the stripes and put up the signs. The work is planned around traffic and can be done at night, so the street is open again by morning.
Raised Crossings
Crossings built up to footpath level in asphalt or concrete, with smooth ramps on both sides that slow traffic as it arrives.
Kerb Ramps & Tactiles
Kerb ramps on each side with yellow tactile markers, so people with prams, wheelchairs or low vision can find the crossing and get on and off it easily.
Line Marking
Bright white zebra stripes and ramp markings, painted so drivers can see the crossing by day and at night.
Signs & Upgrades
Pedestrian crossing signs on both approaches, and older crossings raised, rebuilt or re-marked to match.
